UPCOMING EVENTS

Jim Lidgard Memorial World Electron Champs 07

Hosted by Rarotonga Sailing Club

30th, 31st July & 1st August

Email Update from Greg Stenbeck . . . Cheers Greg

Hi from Raro

Another wonderful regatta with all the usual close racing, some disputed decisions, a bit of yelling but over all a ton of fun in paradise.

I will be back and would recommend it to anyone.

As for the results Brett May was first with 21 points. I ended up second with 23, Tony Baker 3rd on 24, Lindsay Graves 4th on 26, Peter Heays close behind

Carl was 10th. Carl sailed so well and the final result is not truly indicative of his performance.

On the first day I held the lead, with Brett two points behind. On the second day the results were as above as the third day was abandoned . . . through lack of wind.

However we did have a long distance race in which I held a reasonable lead to be beaten by Brett (again) in the last metre with Thomas Koteka millimeters in third.

As expected we have been hosted magnificently by Peter and Jolene Heays and the members of the Raro sailing Club including Jeff, Tony, Thomas and the wonderful race officials – George and Jenny. Tomorrow we are off to Aitutaki for the match racing. The worse you can do in any race is second.

The stay here has been amazingly wonderful and the highlight, although a sad occasion, was attending the funeral for Sir Tom Davies where we were treated as dignitaries during a great and moving celebration of his incredible life.

Bring on Aitutaki.

Hi from Aitutaki

From Greg Stenbeck

Eleven boats fronted to vie for the fabulous ‘World Match Racing’ trophy at glorious Aitutaki.

We all stayed at Samades where the water laps the bar and you sit on sand drinking cocktails under a thatched roof and look at fish swimming metres away from your feet while beyond is a tropical island and lagoon view that has to be seen . . . as it can not be described.

Carl created some great upsets during the racing and Tony Baker got through to the finals with very few losses.

I was undefeated up to the semis . . . then with two bad starts, I gave it to an on form Peter Heays who went on to beat Tony Baker in the final.

A great consolation was in the girls racing where Jan (Carl's partner) won the champions trophy and Billy Baker and Vicki Stenbeck gave very credible performances in strong winds particularly considering the amount of previous Electron sailing all three had done.

A high light was the lagoon cruise amongst totally uninhabited islands with torquise waters, white sands and lush green vegetation. The snorkeling in terms of fish was as good as you can get anywhere.

All thanks to Peter and Joline Heays, Jeff Hill and all the rest of the Rarotonga Sailing Club for making it such a memorable event and for going out of their way, so much, to ensure that everybody enjoyed themselves.

Congradulations to Brett May for winning the fleet event and to Peter Heays for winning the match racing event.

Best Regards from Aitutaki Island . . .Greg S

CLUB RESULTS

Rarotonga Sailing Club 2007 Summer Series

A modest breeze today obviously suited Peter as he dominated for most of the regatta & it was no surprise to find he had won when the points were added up.

His boat behaved itself & things just seemed to work out for him

Richard however, just couldn't get his boat performing as we all know it can. Seems to be some sort of intermittent fault that strikes at the most frustrating times.

Ted had a good day today. Although he missed the first race, he sailed well enough to attain second place in the regatta.

I suspect the rest of us would rather not talk about it, however Willie showed some very good form from time to time & notched up some good places.

The detailed results are attached as usual.
