RECENT RESULTS

" W I Y C 2008 JIM LIDGARD MEMORIAL REGATTA"

HELD 29th June 2008

A damp start caused a few hassles with the set up of the race schedule, however the nastie looking clouds let us get the full race schedule in good time.

The little OZZIE Battler won through with a 3 to 1 result in the Final, not reflecting how close the racing was in the often shifting breeze.

RESULTS

1 . . Ray Nixon - 3 and 1
2 . . Tony Park
3 . . Tony Baker
4 . . Carl Wackrow

Our thanks go to Bernie Nixon and Don McGowan, for their terrific efforts administrating the todays racing, in less than ideal conditions. Without them we can not have such a great event.

" W I Y C 2008 WINTER SERIES"

SOME WIND . . . a good turnout . . . and so some great racing.

Greg P has a couple of good races, surprize, 2 x 3rds, match by Tony Park with a mixed 5 and 1st. This leaves Wayne Willamson and Greg P equal second on points.

NOTE: SUNDAY . 29th June 2008 Rescheduled

The Jim Lidgard Memorial Regatta will be raced on Sunday

NEXT WINTER Race Day . . . SUNDAY . 13th July 2008

Alternate Sundays Sailing starts 15:00 . . Points at 16:00

"2008 W I Y C Waiheke Weekend "

Another terrific WIYC Waiheke Weekend, wonderfully hosted by Geoff and Rosemary Bullock. The Weather, the hospitality, the entertainment and sailing were terrific.

The Ocean race was postponed in kind consideration of several members who could not compete, and replaced by fun racing off the beach, enjoyed by all.

Two Mark Foy races were held, an innovation for WIYC, with Colin Churchouse "H" winning the first
and Tony Park "P" winning the second.

Our thanks go to the Bullock's, to those that organised the food and grog, Greg S for getting his ... s wet setting the courses, and to Don for his photography and the terrific photo display on his computer on Sunday Morning . . .

MY particular thanks go to Wayne W for supplying me with the opportunity to have a now rare and terrific weekend afloat.

I heard a number say . . . "This was the Best ONE" . . . A Great Weekend . . .

I have been promised, by our honourary photographer, a set of photos that will be delivered to me via Geoff. Thanks Don. I will put photo display on the website as soon as received.

.......

" W I Y C 2007/8 SSS . . . SECOND SUMMER SERIES"

Tony Baker secures his SSS WIN, from a fast finishing Greg Stenbeck (2 wins).

Our condolenses and special thoughts go to Ray & Bernie and family, on the loss of Ray's much loved Mum. Many of us got to meet and chat with a neat lady, at the WIYC Electron sailing at Westhaven just last year.

" W I Y C 2008 CLUB CHAMPS"

Finally Ray received the entries, and 12 boats participated.

All competitors thank Chris Morton for his terrific OOD duties, and Bernie for her great support work.

1st . . . Tony Park . . . net 21 points
2nd . . . Greg Stenbeck . . . 34 . . . yes 34 points
3rd . . . Tony Baker . . . 35 points . . . just 1 point back

Our congratulations to Tony Park for an outstanding performance in difficult racing conditions. With the exception of Tony, I do not remember a regatta with such mixed results by all competitors, with Tony B, Greg S and Raymondo all having to discard 19, 18 and 15 points . . . (19 points is a 10th and a 9th . . . Lucky there were 2 discards)

" W I Y C 2008 LADIES CLUB CHAMPS"

1st . . . Billie Baker
2nd . . . Jan Evs

Congratulations to Billie Baker on winning the WIYC Ladies Championship and many thanks to both Billie and Jan Evs for competing in this years event.

There was very little between Billie and Jan on the course. It would be great to see more ladies competing next year.

Give it a go girls, you've got a year to practice . . .

Cheers . . . Ray Nixon

"2008 Auckland Anniversary Regatta"

Another small but competitive fleet had to wait a while for the wind to sort itself out, and even then it was light and moving, until an afternoon sea breeze filled in with some gusto.

Greg S started slow, but, came back with a vengence, while Greg P astounded those there with some good light wind results, and only just held on in the windier afternoon with 2nd thru 5th separated by only 5 points.

1st . . . Greg Stenbeck . . . net 13 points
2nd . . . Greg Paul . . . net 36
3rd . . . Don Lidgard . . . net 38
4th . . . Grant Faber . . . net 39
5th . . . Dan Leahy . . . net 41

OOD Ray Nixon commented that this was the friendliest Auckland Anniversary Regatta he has presided over.

We, the competitors, thank Ray and Bernie for their efforts to run another great regatta.
