WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIRONMENT . . . ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** NEW 2008 - 2011 R & A Rules of Golf *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Mind Game ************************************************************************ *** NEW 2008 - 2011 R & A RULES of GOLF The following is my brief summary of some of the new rules. A number of other ammendments have been made to avoid the imposition of a "double penalty". I would advice all players, however, to acquire a copy of the Official Rules, and read them fully. Definitions - Advice - Information on the Rules, distance or matters of public information, such as the position of hazards or the flagstick on the putting green, is not advice. 12-2 Identitying Ball - The responsibility for playing the proper ball rests with the player. Each player should put an identification mark on his ball. 14-3 Artifical Devices, Unusual Equipment - Added to clarify that a Local Rule may be introduced allowing the use of distance measuring devices. 16-1e Standing Astride or on the Line of Putt - Exception added to apply no penalty if act was inadvertent or to avoid standing on another player's line of putt. 24-1 Movable Obstruction - When a ball is in motion, an obstruction that might influence the movement of the ball . . . other than equipment of any player or the flagstick when attended, removed or held up . . . must not be moved. Clubhead; Spring Effect and Dynamic Properties - New section added on spring effect. The limit, as detailed in the Pendulum Test Protocol, now applies to all clubs (except putters) and in all forms of the game. . . . . . . Tiger Woods - Are you convinced yet that Tiger will have another incredible year . . . ? Have a great 2008 golfing year. . . . . . . I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on my comments to email greg@goforgolf.com Enjoy your Golf Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** JANUARY COMPETITION The January Spot the Ball contest was not picked, although a number were very close. The winning position was a 5 See below for details of the FEBRUARY Spot the Ball Contest. __________________________________________________________ *** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES You have let me down . . . or have been enjoying the summer away from golf. Include your email address . . . how else can we notify the winner. No correspondence or discussion will be entered into. __________________________________________________________ *** HandiTIPS *** 1. How to Improve your game - Compete against yourself Commence now to record your hole by hole scores. Once you have four or five scorescards entered for your home course, or the course you play regularly, then print out your analysis from GoforGOLF. From this, you will be able to see which holes you score well on, and those that tou have difficulty with. You may have birdied two holes. Now identify the next two holes that you think are the next easiest for you to improve on. If you are like me, and play bogie golf, my handicap is close to 18, then to par a hole is a good result. So select the two holes you think you can next par. During the next rounds, choose those two holes and attack them, until you do par them. Once you have succeeded on one of those holes, you will find you can do it more consistently. Then select the next easiest, until you have conquered them all It did work for me. 2. Changes to Slope Rating There is a continuing revision of Slope ratings. If your course has been re-rated, let me know on greg@goforgolf.com and I will update GoforGOLF. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS While the Northern Hemisphere warms up, the US Tour is now in full swing with the FedEx CUP waiting for Tiger to take over the lead . . . the European Tour journeys through the East.
