Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Paul casey, K J Choi, Steward Cink, Tim Clark, Nick Dougherty, Ernie Els, Niclas Fasth, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Charles Howell III, Trevor Immelman, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Paul Lawrie, Justin Leonard, Phil Mickelson, Nick O'Hern, Rod Pampling, Ian Poulter, Adam Scott, Vijay Singh, Steve Stricker, Lee Westwood, and based on his last few tournaments in Europe, Colin Montgomerie, yes Colin. That's 28 out of around 130 entries. 6 of those are Australian. Whooow. What does this say. THE OPEN is going to be a closely fought tournament with something like a quarter of the players with a good chance of Winning on the day. . . . It will be compelling viewing. All games are played under MATCH PLAY Rules, where the results are determined by the number of holes won. Played over 3 days, the first two days involve FOURBALL in the morning and FOURSOMES in the afternoon. The Final day is SINGLES format. If you are like me and haven't played in many Club events, you are probably thinking what is the diifference between these 3 formats. This month I cover FOURSOMES (This is in my words, not any technical stuff) "Foursomes" play is a match between two teams of two players each, where the team players play together using one ball only. The golfers play alterante shots until the hole is completed, and the players takes turns to hit the Tee Shot. Tactically this might mean, a particular team member is better suited to the odd holes because it means he Tees off on the most par 5's. Or perhaps one player is more suited to playing fade shots off the Tee. As with Fourball, the lowest score on a hole wins that hole. The same score and the hole is "halved". Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS We Again cross the Atlantic for the next major, The British Open - known in UK simply as . . .
