To win such a series is fantastic, for a young guy, out of a south pacific island nation to achieve such a title . . . INCREDIBLE. The RYDER CUP . . . I don't have time to do a special newsletter for the Ryder Cup this year, I hope you have enjoyed the HandiTIPS section over the last few newsletters. The Ryder Cup is one of the few international events in the world, where the competitors do compete for the love of the event, no pay. Unusual in todays professional situation. Another interesting match play term A player may concede an apponent's next stroke at any time provided the opponent's ball is at rest. The opponent is considered to have holed out with his next stroke and the ball may be removed by either side. Or to put it simply, if your next putt is conceded, it is if you suceeded with your putt, and your score for the hole is decided. This usually means we have have halved the hole, or I have one more put to win or halve the hole. POINTS There are 28 points (games) available. Day 1 - "foursomes" - 8 points Day 2 - "Four-Ball" - 8 points Final Day - "Singles - 12 points Remembering that a match can be halved, the first TEAM to accumulate 14 1/2 points is the winner. All matches continue to conclusion to determine the overall result. . . .
