WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIRONMENT . . . ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** FedEX Cup Changes *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Driver ************************************************************************ *** FedEX 2009 changes I said I'd give you an update on the FedEx Cup changes. In Brief: 1.. The points system is quite different, only 500 points going down to 1 for the 70th guy. While still giving "a" points advantage to the winner and top few, the difference between the 70th and those who missed the cut is less, only one point, encouraging those to continue to compete. 2. The re-adjustment of the points is no longer before the Finals, but, only before the FINAL Tournament, The Tour Championship. 3. The re-adjustment of the points for The Tour Championship . . Gives every player a mathematical chance to win the US$10,000,000 first prize. This should keep the FedEX Cup Interesting and Alive until the very end. (As opposed to last year when Vijay Singh had it sown up after the first two final tournaments). . . . We still await the return of Tiger. No hint on his website. I'll predict that he will return for a tournament or two just before the first Major, The Masters. That puts it about mid March . . . What do you think ? . . . . . . I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on events, or on my comments . . . email . . . greg@goforgolf.com Enjoy your Golf Greg Paul GoforGOLF __________________________________________________________ *** JANUARY COMPETITION The winner of the January Spot the Ball competition with the only correct entry is John Matthews of Christchurch, New Zealand. CIRCLED Scores There is often confusion over the Circled Score function. A circled score takes place when you pick up your ball before completing the hole. Etiquette - If playing a friendly game, it is considered good etiquette to pick up your ball if you have strayed, so that you do not hold up the groups behind. In my country, when you pick up your ball on a hole, you normally enter a circled or adjusted score, for handicapping purposes. (The adjusted score entered is the score based on your handicap and the rating of the particular hole, that you would have needed to score to obtain one stableford point, while you actually receive zero stableford points). In GoforGOLF I suggest you enter an estimated score for the hole. An estimate of what you might have scored if you had continued. This is so that your score record is completed. Then tick the 'Circle' box for the hole when entering your score. GoforGOLF will then include zero stableford points, and calculate your 'corrected' score as stated above. It is this 'corrected score' that is used for handicapping purposes. (Remember . . . don't pick up your ball if you are competing in an Official Stroke Play competition). REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS While the Northern Hemisphere warms up, the US Tour is now in full swing with the FedEx CUPs new format showing a closer race at the front . . . the European Tour continues through their extended Eastern swing, through the desert course.
