Newsletter Number 134 from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ Now in our 11TH YEAR with over ** 50,000 ** scorecards entered and courses from over 62 countries . . . growing by the day. WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIRONMENT . . . ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** 59s *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** More Golf & Sports Links *** In the Leather ************************************************************************ *** 59s Only 3 rounds had ever been scored below 60 in a PGA Tournament, until the last few weeks, when 2 were scored. This remarkable event was achieved by Paul Goydos in the 1st round of the John Deere Classic, then by Stuart Appleby in the last round of the The Greenbrier Classic. It was the first 59 on the tour since David Duval's memorable final round in the 1999 Bob Hope Classic, and after the first in 1977 by Al Geiberger and Chip Beck in 1991. Add to that 60's by J B Holmes, Carl Pettersson and Steve Stricker, also in the last few weeks, and what does this say. Are the PGA official's getting soft and setting up the courses too easy, or are these guys just getting better and better, helped by the inevitable technology improvements of balls and clubs. An interesting question to be pondered. . . . We are now only a week away from the Final Major of the year, where has the time gone. And this week we have another WGC World Championship event at the famous Firestone Country Club. Then we have the finals of the FedEx Cup. For Golf Watchers and followers, there is plenty to do this Month. . . . . . . I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on events, or on my comments . . . to email . . . greg@goforgolf.com Enjoy your Golf Greg Paul GoforGOLF __________________________________________________________ *** JULY COMPETITION The winner chosen for the July competition is Rebecca Hill, of Te Awamutu, New Zealand. After each week of the playoffs, the fields are cut, until only 30 golfers move on to the final event. The four playoff tournaments are: ** The Barclays - 125 golfers in the field ** Deutsche Bank Championship - 100 golfers in the field ** BMW Championship - 70 golfers in the field ** Tour Championship - 30 golfers in the field The cuts in the field each week of the playoffs are determined by ranking on the FedEx Cup points list. For example, following Week 1 of the playoffs, only the Top 100 on the points list advance to the Deutsche Bank Championship. The golfer atop to the points list following the Tour Championship is crowned the FedEx Cup champion. As I understand it, all the last 30 have a chance to win FedEx Cup, and if any of the top 6 wins the Tour Championship they will also win the FedEx Cup. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS We return to the US for the LAST MAJOR of the year - 12 to 15 August.
