Should be useful on a few of the holes at Hauraki if you stray. __________________________________________________________ *** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES YES - A hole in one for Ted Grant on the par 3 10th hole at Waitangi Golf Club in the Bay of Islands, off the white tee on 7th July 2000. Ted recalls, "I used my ... 4 iron on the 10th and was really angry because I hadn't got on the green on any of the previous par 3s for 1 that day. So I walked up to the tee and dropped my ball on the ground (no tee) and hit the ball . . . I didn't look where it went and neither did my friend. Just as my friend was about to hit his ball we heard a cheer from the group in front of us. We didn't know what they were cheering about so we walked down to the green and asked them if they saw my ball. They asked who teed off first and I said me. Then they said 'Well Congratulations'. I said 'What for?' and they said 'the Hole in One'. So I walked over to the hole and looked in and sure enough there was my 'Titlist 4 Tour Distance 100' sitting in the hole. I was so happy. Well Done Ted. I'll try that method myself next week. EAGLES - 'The Eagles Return'. A number of eagles were scored in early July. Waiuku Golf and Squash Club - 7th (Blue Tee) Westport Golf Club - 4th - (White Tee) Manawatu Golf Club - 9th - (White Tee) Waitangi Golf Club - 3rd - (White Tee) - Yes the same chap. Palmerston North Golf Club - 11th - (White Tee) Well done to you all. (Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission). _________________________________________________________ *** AUGUST COMPETITION A chance to win a Dozen Wilson Staff Titanium Core Golf Balls. The 2000 Senior British Open - held at the Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland was won by a player from Ireland. While there were 5 players from the Senior Tour who played in the British Open, an interesting talking point has been what is considered to be the unique situation of a Knight of the Realm playing in both the British Open and the Senior British Open in the same year, (and in consecutive tournaments). *** Answer these two simple questions to be in the draw *** for a Dozen Wilson Staff Titanium Core Golf Balls a) Who won the 2000 Senior British Open ? b) Who was that golfing Knight ? TO ENTER - CLICK on the banner advert on the GoforGOLF website http://www.goforgolf.co.nz or go direct to the entry form at http://www.goforgolf.co.nz/contest.asp The winners will be drawn from the correct entries by the management of Sports Information Management Ltd. The results will be final. (and now as usual the small print?) No correspondence or discussion will be entered into. __________________________________________________________ *** Slope Rating & Handicapping System GoforGOLF is ready for 1st September 2000. Goforgolf is ready for you to enter your scorecards once the Slope Rating and Handicap System is introduced by the NZGA on 1st September 2000. Enter your Handicap / Handicap Index into GoforGOLF in the same way as present, and your corrected score and stableford points will still be calculated by GoforGOLF. What is more, you no longer have to go back to the home page to change your handicap. When you are about to enter your score, you can now enter your new handicap, and by ticking the tick box alongside, your master information will be updated with the new handicap. Well done NZGA GoforGOLF congratulates the NZGA for undertaking the introduction of the Slope Rating and Handicapping System. It has been a huge endeavour to rate all the affiliated golf clubs and provide access for all of them to the central computer system so that they can enter members handicap information into the one database. What does it mean for the player? The Slope System was developed in the USA and implemented in 1987. Over 40 countries worldwide have since adopted the Slope System. It is considered by the NZGA to greatly improve the inconsistencies in the present system, between scratch and other player handicaps, and the differences between the difficulty and conditions of courses. The El Nino weather conditions of recent years has show the present system to have several weaknesses. The research undertaken by the NZGA handicapping committee established the USGA Slope Rating and Handicapping System was the best available, offering a consistent system worldwide and true portability. It will allow players to compete in a much more equitable way on any affiliated course and against players of all different skill levels. It will even allow players to compete playing off different tees, as the is a Slope Chart for each and every tee, mens and ladies. It will ultimately mean that NZ players will be able to travel to any country using the Slope System, and compete using their official NZ handicap. How does it work? For the player, little changes when filling out your scorecard. The NZGA have recently distributed an explanatory brochure to all registered players. (Only registered players can have an official NZGA handicap). For further information visit the GoforGOLF website. For my simple guide http://www.goforgolf.com/slopedetail.asp *** For the Interested There are a number of web sites that have information on the Slope system. These include simple overviews and historical articles, through to detailed explanations with full formulas etc. The USGA website has their Slope Manual online. I have listed a number of websites that include articles and information on the Slope System in our 'News & Links' section. Just click - http://www.goforgolf.com/links.asp Or Click the 'News and Links' button at the bottom of each page for a list of links to websites all over the world. *** What to do. For non slope countries, simply ignore the USGA Slope option. But if you are in a Slope Rating country, go to your master record, and tick the box - 'Normally use USGA Slope Rating for score entry'. You can 'Change Your Details' by returning to the home page after 'Signing In' and select the 'Change Your Details' button. Have a look at the other interesting links while you are there. __________________________________________________________ *** Slope Ratings and Course Ratings HELP PLEASE HELP US UPDATE OUR DATABASE HELP Let me know the Slope Ratings and Course Rating of your golf course, or any course you play.
