What a year ! Where has it gone ? The activity on the website has continued to grow, with now, 20,000 scores having been entered by GoforGOLFers. The registrations are increasing, and now we have over 2,200 courses having been entered by GoforGOLFers. That is well over 1,000 US courses and now 85% of New Zealand courses. The number of hits have been in excess of 250,000 for the last few months, and we exceeded 300,000 hits during April. Our thanks go out to all of you for supporting GoforGOLF and making the 4th year the most successful. We look forward to your continued support in our 5th year. APRIL A great month of golf saw the wonderful event of the first Canadian Golfer winning a Major, Mike Weir. It saw a very emotional Freddie Couples win his first tournament for 5 years. (I've always been a fan of his - great swing). We saw one amazing weekend with 4 Play Offs, in the US LPGA, European, Japanese and US Nationwide tournaments. Luckily Fred didn't risk a play off winning by 4 shots. MAY What does May promise? A quiet month ? . . . No majors, they all continue in June. Still I am sure there will be more terrific golf to watch, and perhaps it might give me some time to actually get to play some golf . . . THE LADIES To conclude with some more statistics, the ladies have been running at between 11 and 12% since the first month, but, at the moment is only 10.75% I am informed more Ladies are taking up golf, and now make up 15% of players, so, come on Ladies let's get that percentage increasing on GoforGOLF. BIRTHDAY PRESENT If you want to send me a birthday present, my wish is for an experienced marketing person, who can sell the advertising banners for us. This is a genuine wish, an area of Goforgolf I have to solve before I can start playing golf myself again . . . We can't develop the website at the rate and to the extent my partner and I would like, until we get some recovery of the continuing costs. Please email me on greg@goforgolf.com if you can help. Wishing you all a great May of Golf. . . . I have to finish with a tribute to Possum Bourne. New Zealand Rally Driver. What a great guy, a great kiwi. I have to repeat the many media people who have said, he is 'such a neat approachable guy'. Possum, I saw you in person, at a Raglan service area, and you were SO receptive to your fans, immediately after finishing each stage of the Rally. Even to sign the ruler of a young fan. We will all miss you . . . I can say no more . . . Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** COMPETITION The winner for April is F Hutton from Gisborne, New Zealand. Your TWO dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls, are on their way to you. See below for details of the May Spot the Ball Contest. __________________________________________________________ *** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES One Hole in One during April 27th Apr Mangawhai Golf Club 17th White Tee Jim Humphreys Jim tells us, "Played a stead round with some good shots but nothing spectacular until the 17th. First off the tee and a lovely three metal covering the pin all the way with the ball dropping some 5 metres short of the hole and running up to the pin and out of sight. My playing partner immediately commented that he had seen the ball disappear and it was definitely a 'hole in one'. I must confess, I was a little more sceptical, thinking that the ball could have been obscured by the pin. On reaching the green my partner allowed me to proceed first up to the hole to sight the ball nestling in the cup." And a number of Eagles: 2nd Apr Akarana Golf Club 10th White Tee Dirk Bullivant 6th Apr Brighton Dale Links 15th Gold Tee 9th Apr Cirencester Golf Club 3rd White Tee 21st Apr Levin Golf Club 5th Yellow Tee 22nd Apr Waikanae Golf Club 16th White Tee 27th Apr South Head Golf Club 9th White Tee 30th Apr Whangaparaoa Golf Club 16th White Tee Dirk recalls, " Had been playing army golf up to the tenth and a friend said 'stand still and hit the ball'. It took off dead straight landed on the left hand side and 240 metres. A 6 iron hit strong, drew right to left, landed 3 metres from the hole and spun back 3 feet closer. With knees knocking and hands shaking, the sweat dripping, dropped the putt in the side door". Congratulations to all successful GoforGOLFers. (Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission - let us know if you make a hole in one, eagle or albatross). _________________________________________________________ *** MAY COMPETITION This month the prize is sponsored by the Golf Update Magazine ONE Dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls " SPOT the BALL " To enter the contest, enter the coordinates of the position you think the ball is. Make sure you enter you email address . . . how else can we notify the winner. No correspondence or discussion will be entered into. __________________________________________________________ *** HandiTIPS 1. ADD THE OTHER TEES If you have entered a New scorecard for a course, you can load the other Tees, (and complete the scorecard). Select the 'Enter a Score' button on the green menu. If you have just entered the card, your course name will already be showing in the '3 - course' box. If not, use the 'Select a Course' option to select the course. Then go to the 'Enter a Score' box (yellow box) and the 'Add Tee' button will be showing. Entering the second tee is even easier than the first one. If you are not the person who entered the original tee, you will not see the 'Add Tee' button. If you have the details for the other tees, mail or email them to me, and I will enter them. (We only allow the originator to enter further tees as a security factor, to eliminate malicious entries). 2. FORGOTTEN YOUR PASSWORD If you have forgotten your details, use the 'Forgot your Details?' button on the green menu. Your "access number" is shown after your name on this newsletter. Enter this and your name, country, home course and the email address you used when registering (many people have several email addresses). The more information the better, as there are now thousands of GoforGOLFers, and many duplicate names. The additional information will help us identify your registration. Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** SUGGESTIONS, QUESTIONS & COMMENTS Suggestions, questions and comments are welcomed. A ball that goes around the cup without falling in is said to have RIMMED the hole, or to have ringed, skirted, lipped, lapped, or looped it. It may also be said to have curled, circled, or rolled around it, or to have done a tour, a circuit, around trip, an orbit, or a buttonhook. There are one or two terms for a ball actually going into the cup, but they are used so seldom that it seems like a waste of space to include them here".
