You are welcome to pass this newsletter on to friends. ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** Annika Sorenstam *** Competition Winners *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** Suggestions, Questions and Comments *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Impossible Lie ************************************************************************ *** ANNIKA SORENSTAM Much has been said and discussed over the last few weeks, on the merits of Annika Sorenstam's journey onto the PGA Tour. Is it correct that a lady should be allowed on the tour? The rules allow it to happen. Or should men be allowed on the ladies tour? The rules do NOT allow it. Surely the PGA Tour is the elite of all tours, competed by the best of golfers, and if some ladies can compete, why shouldn't they be allowed to have a chance to win the big money. As far as whether men should play on the ladies tour, I feel that each of the other tours are designed for niche markets and/or players of a similar level of ability, creating a series of very competitive competitions, where the cream from each, can aspire to join the elite Tour, the PGA Tour. As far as whether Annika, the undisputable top lady player at the moment, proved that ladies are not able to compete with the top men, I believe one must keep in mind, that it was a one off attempt, many men take years to achieve a consistent performance. (I could mention Michael Campbell's attempt at the PGA Tour, and even Phil Mickelson presently 22nd on the money list missed the cut this week, 11 shots off the pace). And the pressure of handling the increased crowds, the 600 media, 4 times the usual for that tournament, and of course everyone wanting to see only one player. I can appreciate that, she is definitely better looking than the men on the tour, and what is more, she has a great swing . . . one I am sure many of the men would love to have. You are invited to send me your views on greg@goforgolf.com Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** COMPETITION The winner for May is Bruce Phillips. He describes it for us. "The back to back eagles I had on 8 and 9 were pretty surprising, being 4 over after 7 and ending up with 36. I hit a good drive on 8 and hit a 7 iron to 10 feet. Drained the putt and then hit another pretty good drive on 9 with a 3 iron left in. I hit a little cut and it landed front edge of the green and ran out 3 feet from the pin and tapped in for eagle. I doubt I'll ever come close to doing this again. Peter tells us, "I hit the driver Ok just in the right rough, then used a 4 iron with a slight fade which ended up about 3 feet from the pin. Holed the putt and walked off very happy with myself". Greg recounts, "Good drive followed by a lucky miracle second using a 3 iron, ended up 3 metres from the pin, and I drained the putt". Congratulations to all successful GoforGOLFers. (Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission - let us know if you make a hole in one, eagle or albatross). _________________________________________________________ *** JUNE COMPETITION This month the prize is sponsored by the Golf Update Magazine ONE Dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls " SPOT the BALL " To enter the contest, enter the coordinates of the position you think the ball is. Commence now to record your hole by hole scores. Once you have four or five scorecards entered for your home course, or the course you play regularly, then print out your score analysis. (Click the 'Enter Score' button and select analysis report option from the orange box). From this, you will be able to see which holes you score well on, and those which you have difficulty with. Now identify two holes that you think are the easiest for you to improve on. If you always bogey them, then you think you can par them. During the next rounds try particularly to par these two. When you have beaten those two holes, choose the next two holes and attack them. Once you have succeeded on a hole, you will find you can beat it more consistently. It worked for me. 2.
