GoforGOLF . . . NEWSLETTER FIFTY THREE . . . GoforGOLF
Newsletter Number 53 from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ NOW In our FIFTH year and with 24,000 scorecards entered and courses from over 46 countries . . . and growing by the day. You are welcome to pass this newsletter on to friends. ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** Tiger Remains Number One on World Ranking *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** Suggestions, Questions and Comments *** More Golf & Sports Links *** The Mind Game ************************************************************************ *** Tiger Remains Number One While Tiger holds onto his Number One position on the World Golf Rankings, he has been overtaken on the 2003 Money Leader list by Vijay Singh, with only this weekend's TOUR Championship to go. Vijay needs to finish in the top 4 should Tiger win the tournament, if he is to take the top position for the year, and stop Tigers run of firsts since 1999. November did bring Tiger the record of 113 consecutive cuts. The Cut has been made for the year, with the top 125 qualifying for the 2004 USPGA tour, and the next 25 receiving limited exemptions. Right on the cut line were Glen Hnatiuk and Esteban Toledo, with Per-Ulrik Johansson missing in 126th place. Making the limited exemption status was Craig Perks in 146th, and Phil Tataurangi in 149th, from NZ as well as, Jose Maria Olazabal, Greg Chalmers, Mark O'Meara, Angel Cabrera and Corey Pavin. See the full list on http://www.pgatour.com/stats/r_109.html I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on my comments to email greg@goforgolf.com Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** COMPETITION The winner of the October Spot the Ball is Richard Gibbs from Lower Hutt, New Zealand. Your prize of one dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls will be on their way to the you shortly. See below for details of the November Spot the Ball Contest. __________________________________________________________ *** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES A Hole in One at my old club 27th Oct Wattle Downs Golf & Country Club 13th White Tee and only a couple of Eagles . . . between seasons I guess ? 4th Oct Vestfyn Golfklub 6th Yellow Tee 23rd Oct Royal Hobart Golf Club 12th Blue Tee Don sent in a description of his Hole in One. (Don't forget to enter your score into GoforGOLF). "I was waiting at the 14th tee at Ngamotu Golf Course, growling at the poor decision that had just cost me a quintuple bogey on the 13th, when my son who was cadding for me, said "just hit the ball in the hole here and let's get to the next tee back on track". So I did. You should have seen the look on his face. I used a gripped down nine iron to play a punch shot into a green that has a bunker in front and the Tasman Sea behind. The wind was blowing very strong from the South West that made the 130 metre hole play slightly shorter than normal but meant that the flight path of the ball was very much left to right". Congratulations to all successful GoforGOLFers. (Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission - let us know if you make a hole in one, eagle or albatross). _________________________________________________________ *** NOVEMBER COMPETITION This month the prize is sponsored by the Golf Update Magazine ONE Dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls " SPOT the BALL " To enter the contest, enter the coordinates of the position you think the ball is. Choose only one coordinate across and one down. a) Across - (between a and o) ? b) Down - (between 1 and 14) ? TO ENTER - CLICK on the banner advert or menu item on GoforGOLF http://www.goforgolf.co.nz or go direct to the entry form at http://www.goforgolf.co.nz/contest.asp The editor of New Zealand Golf Update magazine has identified the spot. The editors decision is final. (and there is the usual the small print?) You can submit more than one entry, but they must be done separately. Make sure you enter you email address . . . how else can we notify the winner. No correspondence or discussion will be entered into. __________________________________________________________ *** HandiTIPS 1. Advanced Analysis - is available for 18 hole rounds only. While Standard analysis can be entered for 9 hole rounds, either 'Outward' or 'Inward', (front or back nine), Advanced is only available for 18 hole rounds. However, if you play regularly, and play both front and back 9 from time to time, we suggest you save your advanced scores, and enter them in tandem. You can use the 'Notes on THIS game' box to identify when you played two 9's. It is a considerable amount of programming to enable Advanced input for 9 hole scores. We would consider this change if we received sufficient interest, but felt that most that would enter Advanced details would be enthusiasts who would be serious 18 hole player. 2. Associate Players - Golfing Buddies and Team Players. Now that you have joined GoforGOLF, you can add friends and relatives as 'Associate Players'. These players' scores are entered by yourself or using your access number and password. They will receive the same analysis as you get. When they leave, or get their own computer, they can transfer to their own registration/access number without losing any of the scores and information that have already been entered. SCHOOLS and CLUB & PRO TEAMS - Use this to track the progress of your juniors and teams. Register under the Team Name, then add each player as an Associate. You can then enter their scores or have them enter their scores. When they leave your group, they can transfer their registration and continue to enter their own scores to create a full record of their golf. (We have one GoforGOLFer who has entered 345 rounds, one who ahs entered 79 rounds since January this year - and then there is the guy who has entered 113 rounds since registering on 1st October - wel done, I am sure you are using GoforGOLF for the reason it was created - Analysis Just Like the Pros). How? - Click 'Add an Associate' on the green GoforGOLF Menu. 3. Negative Handicaps (Are you better than scratch?) Many top golfers now have a Slope Rating Handicap that is less than scratch (or zero). GoforGOLF is set up to accomodate this. When entering such a Handicap in GoforGOLF, it is necessary to enter it as a negative, e.g. -2.3 The normal is to enter your handicap as a positive number, so if your handicap is less than zero, it has to be entered as a negative. I point this out, as it is sometimes termed that you deduct your handicap from your score, and so a player with a negative handicap and so negative Course Handicap, has to add it to his/her score. This would appear to be, on the face of it, a contradictory situation. Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** SUGGESTIONS, QUESTIONS & COMMENTS Suggestions, questions and comments are welcomed.
