Newsletter Number 55 from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ NOW In our FIFTH year and with 25,000 scorecards entered and courses from over 47 countries . . . and growing by the day. You are welcome to pass this newsletter on to friends. ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** 2004 Season Commences *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** Suggestions, Questions and Comments *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Pro Shop ************************************************************************ HAPPY NEW YEAR 2004 2004 HAPPY NEW YEAR ************************************************************************ *** 2004 Season Commences 2004 Season commences this weekend with the Mercedes Championship for the winners of USPGA tournaments during 2003. It offers up the Ernie vs Tiger challenge again, with Tiger now fit from his surgery . . . and with Vijay Singh pushing both of them. Will we have a bunch of first time winners again taking the majors, or will the cream come to the top again, and we see Tiger, Ernie and Vijay fighting it out each time. 2003 has been a great year with all the new names emerging out of the crowd, Mike Weir, Shaun Micheel and the like. However, it has also seen a few other names come back into contention, such as my favourite, Fred Couples, and Davis Love III and others with emotional wins. Sir Bob Charles - N Z And from a Kiwi point of view, the last appearance of Sir Bob Charles at the New Zealand Open. Sir Bob's career needs to be read to see what he has achieved in such a wonderful way. Quietly focused is the only way to describe this golfer. He does epitimise the wonderful days of golf, the work ethic, one of the great golfers. It is a shame he will not compete in the 'NZ Open' again, against 'the young guys' as he puts it, but, for those in USA who have the opportunity to see him in the few 'Champions Tour' events he intends to play in 2004, take the opportunity to see a master and a gentleman - and left hander. N Z Open I will be at the New Zealand Open at The Grange course in Auckland, and will again try to bring you a photo coverage as I have over the last few years. Click the link on http://www.goforgolf.com/chips.asp I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on my comments to email greg@goforgolf.com Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** COMPETITION The winner of the December Spot the Ball is Dean Rattray from Ashburton, New Zealand. Changes to Courses If your home course, ends with 3 dots, it indicates that there has been a change to your course, significant enough that we have had to enter new course details. This usually occurs from a redesign of a course or where the par of holes has changed. Both these cause changes that effect the corrected score and stableford calculations of GoforGOLF, whereas, if it is only a change in the yardage of a hole, we can easily update that detail. If you find the 3 dots, select the 'Change your Details' button once you have 'signed in' and go to the 'Choose your home or Default Course' display. Click the down arrow, and select the new course layout for your course. If you find a course has made changes to their layout and scorecard, please let us know, or even better, send us a scorecard, and we will update the details on GoforGOLF: Greg at greg@goforgolf.com 2. New Members - Welcome - Others Check these out too To help you enjoy GoforGOLF I make the following suggestions: a. Password - Don't make it too difficult or too long, as you need to type it in each time you visit GoforGOLF. (Unless you choose to 'automatically' remember it). Please do not start with a zero, '0', as it makes it difficult for us to search if you forget your password. b. If you forget your access number or password, don't register again, use the 'Forgot your Details?' button on the green menu, and we will email you back. Send us your access number if you can, it is on your last newsletter. Remember, the more scores you enter, the better the analysis will be. c. Select your Home or Default course. This can be the most used course you play, and it will automatically load when you 'Sign In'. You can still select other courses in the usual way, but, this will save you time when you play your own/usual course. This is accessed through the 'Change your Details' button on the green menu, once you have 'Signed In'. d. You can change your 'Handicap Index' at the time you enter your score. Just tick the box alongside the 'Handicap Index' once you have selected the course you played and have entered the date you played, and your master information will be updated, ready for next time. Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** SUGGESTIONS, QUESTIONS & COMMENTS Suggestions, questions and comments are welcomed.
