There has been the World Softball Championships, the World Rugby 7's Tour, the Coast to Coast Adventure Race and to top it off The Heinken Classic not far away in Australia. So I haven't had much time to do anything else. Now with Ernie Els winning in Australia and Vijay Singh winning in USA, it is looking like it will be a great season of Majors coming up. Vijay is one closer to the record, 14, Jack Nicklaus holding the top 4 positions with 12, 12 13 and 14 consecutive top 10 finishes. Only 6 weeks to wait for the first, the unofficial 5th Major, The Players Championship. In the meantime there is plenty of Golf to follow and watch. I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on my comments to email greg@goforgolf.com Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** COMPETITION The winner of the January Spot the Ball is Elaina Tredrea from Stokes Valley, Lower Hutt, New Zealand. Your prize of one dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls will be on their way to the you shortly. As many have asked, the correct position was M 7. There were 5 correct entries. See below for details of the February Spot the Ball Contest. __________________________________________________________ *** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES A GoforGOLF Hole in One during January 6th Jan Templeton Country Club 2nd Yellow Tee Denise Davidson Denise tells us ". . . how it took place it's pretty brief. Ball above my feet, used a fairway 4 wood. The ball stopped in the fringe in front of the green, 10 meters from the cup. I then quietly chipped in with a 9 iron . . . lucky shot." I also received an email about another Hole in One. Vern Tolhopf said, "I am pleased to advise I had a hole in one at Mangawhai Golf Club on the newly constructed 17th green. This is the 1st hole in One on this green since it has been redeveloped." Vern don't forget to enter your score into GoforGOLF and create a record of your event. Congratulations to all successful GoforGOLFers. (Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission - let us know if you make a hole in one, eagle or albatross). _________________________________________________________ *** FEBRUARY COMPETITION This month the prize is sponsored by the Golf Update Magazine ONE Dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls " SPOT the BALL " To enter the contest, enter the coordinates of the position you think the ball is. What is a 'circled' score ? -It's when you pick up your ball I get regular enquiries into what the 'circled' score is on GoforGOLF. It is considered good etiquette, when playing friendly games, to pick up your ball when you stray, so that you do not slow up the game, or hold up the players behind you. This, in many countries is called, entering 'a circled score'. On your scorecard, you enter the score that you would have to have scored to earn 1 stableford point, and circle it, to indicate to the scorer, that you did not actually score this, but picked up your ball and so score no stableford points. GoforGOLF is set up to help you with this. In GoforGOLF, you are able to enter the score you think you would have scored, (so that your total shots is still accurate for analysis purposes), and then by putting a tick in the 'circled score' box, GoforGOLF will calculate your 'corrected score' and your correct stableford points. We do suggest, though, if you are entering advanced details, that you do not leave the putts blank, but enter an estimate of the number of putts your would have taken on that hole had you putted out, usually 2, so that your 'putting' statistics remain consistent. AND of course, DO NOT pick up your ball when playing competition golf. 2. Finding a Course on GoforGOLF Often courses may be entered under a different district/location to the one you expect. That is because we have tried to aline the districts to the district your Golf Association uses. To help check for a course, use the 'Search by Name' facility. a. Select the country b. skip the location and enter the course name (or part of) in the 'Search by Name' box and Click the Search Button. This will list all courses in the country that match your course name. Check that that yours is not listed before entering a new one. 3. 2004 NZ OPEN Photos View our Photos from each day of the 2004 Holden New Zealand Open in the GoforGOLF CHIPS Photo Gallery. http://www.goforgolf.com/chips.asp Holiday Golf snaps - ALSO HELP us grow the gallery by sending in your golf holiday photographs. Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses.
