GoforGOLF . . . NEWSLETTER FIFTY NINE . . . GoforGOLF
Newsletter Number 59 from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ It's our Fifth birthday with over 27,000 scorecards entered and courses from over 47 countries . . . and growing by the day. WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIROMENT . . . ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** Another 1st Time Winner and Leftie *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** Suggestions, Questions and Comments *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Honour ************************************************************************ *** ANOTHER FIRST TIME WINNER & LEFTIE Well, we got it, a real thriller of a Masters. Some superb golf on a truly challenging course, with all the heavy weights lining up for the chance to win. The old faithfulls, Davis Love, Fred Couples, Bernhard Langer and Nick Price. Then include Vijay Singh, K.J.Choi and Sergio Garcia in the frame. But the last day came down to the challenge by Ernie Els to catch overnight leads Chris DiMarco and Phil Mickelson. As Chris DiMarco fell of the hot pace, it came down to two. And with the winning of the tournament being the last putt, a birdie putt on the 18th, and a fitting winner in Phil Mickelson. Yes, another First Time Major Winner, and consecutive Majors won by a Leftie. What next. I can't wait for the US Open. New Zealand News - It is great to hear that Phil Tataurangi is returning to the US Tour after a long rehabilitation from a back problem. We wish Phil all the best wishes in his return to form. I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on my comments to email greg@goforgolf.com Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** COMPETITION . . . OOPS I made a mistake in the Masters Newsletter saying there was no winner of the March Spot the Ball . . . There WAS. It was John Hume of Howick, Auckland, New Zealand. Winning position H 7. I also stated the prize would jackpot for April and I will stand by this. The winner of the two dozen golf balls in the April Spot the Ball is Daryl Gilliland. Daryl, you didn't give us any contact information. How do we get your prize to you ? Your prizes will be on their way to you shortly. See below for details of the May Spot the Ball Contest. __________________________________________________________ *** HOLES IN ONE and EAGLES A bunch of Eagles during April. 12th Apr Carluke Golf Course 15th Yellow Tee 14th Apr Golf Centre at Kings Island 9th White Tee 18th Apr Cherry Hill Country Club 7th Blue Tee 19th Apr Winyah Bay Golf Club 9th Blue Tee 27th Apr Murrumbidgee Country Club 16th Blue Tee David McGrath 30th Apr Maple Moor Golf Course 12th Blue Tee Jeff Stewart David tells us, "I had just made 2 3 putt bogeys . . . The 16th although driveable, I normally hit an iron from the tee to avoid bunkering on the right hand side and the trees on the right. However, this time I decided to have a crack at the green. My drive flew straight and finished about 2 metres from the putting surface, Leaving a fairly simple uphill chip. . . it dropped in for an eagle to take me back to -1". Jeff recounts, "It was the par 5, 520 metre 12th. I hit a 290 yard drive down the middle. Then I hit a huge 3 wood onto the small elevated green, leaving me with about a 20 footer for eagle. I made the putt. The coolest thing about it was I drove the 265 yard par 4 green on the 13th leaving me with another 20 footer for eagle. I missed the putt by 3 cm. I tapped in for birdie. Almost 2 eagles in a row". Congratulations to all successful GoforGOLFers. (Our promise of confidentiality does not allow us to publish your names, without your permission - let us know if you make a hole in one, eagle or albatross). _________________________________________________________ *** MAY COMPETITION This month the prize is sponsored by the Golf Update Magazine ONE Dozen Premium Brand Golf Balls " SPOT the BALL " To enter the contest, enter the coordinates of the position you think the ball is. Select the course concerned. (As if you were to enter a score). The 'Add a Tee' button will appear in the yellow, 'Enter a Score' box. Click this and you will be presented with an input screen that already has the hole 'Stroke' and 'Par' entered. Just select the hole colour and enter the 'Distance'. 2. Newsletter Maintenance.
