Newsletter Number 64 from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ Now in our 6th year with over 29,000 scorecards entered and courses from over 48 countries . . . and growing by the day. WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIRONMENT . . . ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** The 2004 Ryder Cup *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ONE Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** Suggestions, Questions and Comments *** More Golf & Sports Links *** Golf Accessory ************************************************************************ *** THE 2004 RYDER CUP Well, what can one say. Stunned. I had no idea that the European Team would be so strong. A great team effort. An enthralling tournament with some spectacular golf. Caused me to be late to work. Now which Tour / which side of the Atlantic, is the strongest? For results http://www.pga.com/rydercup *** WORLD RANKINGS Last month I asked, "How Long will Vijay hold the top place or will Tiger fight back?" Now we have Ernie Els passing Tiger, taking over at No 2. Then we have Tiger marrying his Swedish model, Elin Nordegren. I am sure he doesn't have his usually focused mind only just golf at the moment. Will we see the often repeated story being replayed once again, with Tiger starting to win consistently again, holding a baby in one arm and the trophy in the other. Consider, Davis Love III and Phil Mickelson as two examples of this phenomenon. I expect so . . . I hope so . . . I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on my comments to email greg@goforgolf.com *** THE WEDDING For the wedding photo, you obviously have to go the Tiger's official website http://www.tigerwoods.com On the right of the home page there is a "Hot Articles" section. ** Tiger and Elin Marry in Barnados *** is the HOTEST story. Click it to see Tiger's announcement and THE wedding photo. Now Guys, let the wife know. I am sure she would love to see the wedding dress, and the new Mrs Tiger, I mean new Mrs Woods. Also, try typing 'tiger woods wedding' into the www.google.com search engine and see what you get. Entering a NEW Course - STROKE Many terms in golf vary from country to country. When entering a new course into GoforGOLF the term 'Stroke' is often missinterpreted as your first score. However, it is necessary to enter the course, before you are able to enter your score. The term 'Stroke' refers to 'Stroke Index' which is often referred to as 'Handicap' on many scorecards. This is the rating of the hole between 1 and 18, where 1 is the hardest hole, and 18 is the easiest. Each hole must have a unique stroke. Don't get this confused with PAR, also know as Par Rating, which is the number a shots a zero handicap player is expected to take on that hole, usually 3, 4 or 5. 2. CIRCLED Scores Similarly, there is often confusion over the Circled Score function. A circled score takes place when you pick up your ball before completing the hole. Etiquette - If playing a friendly game, it is considered good etiquette to pick up your ball if you have strayed, so that you do not hold up the groups behind. In my country, when you pick up your ball on a hole, you normally enter a circled or adjusted score, for handicapping purposes. (The adjusted score entered is the score based on your handicap and the rating of the particular hole, that you would have needed to score to obtain one stableford point, while you actually receive zero stableford points). In GoforGOLF I suggest you enter an estimated score for the hole. An estimate of what you might have scored if you had continued. This is so that your score record is completed. Then tick the 'Circle' box for the hole when entering your score. GoforGOLF will then include zero stableford points, and calculate your 'corrected' score as stated above. It is this 'corrected score' that is used for handicapping purposes. (Remember . . . don't pick up your ball if you are competing in an official stroke play competition). 3. Entering a TEST score You are welcome to enter a Test score in GoforGOLF to see what it can do for you, and how it will react to a certain circumstance or input. However, PLEASE DELETE it when you are finished. If left in your record, it will cause incorrect information and statistics to be calculated, reducing the usefulness of your record. To Delete a score, Sign In as if to enter a score, highlight the score concerned in the orange box, and click the 'Delete Score' button below. Check that it is the score you wish the delete and confirm by clicking the "Delete Score" button below the score displayed. Email me on . . . greg@goforgolf.com . . . and I will help you with any problems you may have with registering and entering your scorecards and courses. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** SUGGESTIONS, QUESTIONS & COMMENTS Suggestions, questions and comments are welcomed.
