GoforGOLF . . . NEWSLETTER SEVENTY FOUR . . . GoforGOLF

Newsletter Number 74 from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ Now in our 7TH YEAR with over 34,000 scorecards entered and courses from over 53 countries . . . and growing by the day. WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE CREATED THIS GOLFING ENVIRONMENT . . . ************************************************************************ IN THIS ISSUE *** Return to 2000 ??? *** Competition Winner *** Holes in One and Eagles *** WIN ** JACKPOT AGAIN ** THREE ** Dozen Premium Golf Balls *** HandiTIPS *** More Golf & Sports Links *** The Yips ************************************************************************ *** RETURN TO 2000 ? Have we seen the return to 2000 for Tiger Woods, with a more than impressive win at THE OPEN. Follow that up with his *** 61 *** on friday at the Buick Open, and you would be like me, thinking it was happening. Add the stunning final 9 at the Buick . . . was that 6 birdies and one albatros . . . in the Final round. So it was great to see Vijay nearly match the 61 with a great 63 in the 3rd round, and while Tiger stumbled a little again in the start of the final round. You do have to admire his ability to recover. And Vijay's cruise to the win . . . well. I do not mean to take anything away from Vijay's performance and his win in the Buick, only to reflect on what Tiger has done in the recent weeks. Does it not create a hugh enthusiasm to see the US PGA *** NOW LET'S not forget the Ladies equivalent - Annika Sorenstam After Annika won the McDonalds LPGA Championship, she slipped a little, to a 23rd in the US Open, the Quarter finals in the World Match Play Champs, and a 12th at the Evian Masters. While holding second in the British Open, at the start of the last round, Annika finished Tied for 5th. Is Annika in a slump . . . reflecting back on Tiger, we would have said so. But a top 5 isn't too bad, don't you think. *** "What A time to be a golf player / follower in New Zealand *** Outstanding performance by Tony Cristie (in winning on the Von Nida Tour), David Smail (in back to back play-off appearances in Japan) and then, OH yes, that small matter of Michael Campbell's stunning victory at the US Open and admirable encore at St Andrews." I have taken the liberty to quote from an article from the "New Zealand Golf Magazine", as I cannot say it better. . . . . . . * * * BE IN TO WIN * * * Unlike the US Open, many picked Tiger for THE OPEN So I have picked out 3 winners, Marcellus, Stewart and Ken (I will email you all for delivery addresses) THE 2005 US PGA CHAMPIONSHIP . . . Your Handicap Index GoforGOLF does not calculate your Handicap. Members of clubs have their handicap calculated by their Official National Golf Association - Any difference in the entering of scorecards would cause differences AND confusion. SO WE allow you to update your Official "Handicap Index" when you enter your scores. You can change your 'Handicap Index' at the same time you enter your score. Just tick the box alongside the 'Handicap Index' once you have selected the course you played and have entered the date you played. Your Master information will be updated, ready for next time. 2. Create your Unofficial Handicap If you do not have an offical Handicap, you can use several other websites to calculate a handicap. See our Links pages. You do need your "corrected" scores for it to be reasonably accurate, and you can get that from your GoforGOLF record. Firstly, enter an estimated Handicap in GoforGOLF before entering your scores. Then use the "Corrected Scores" from our score report to enter into a Handicap calculator. Use the New handicap produced for the next 5 to 10 games, then use the Handicap calculator again. (To estimate a handicap, subtract the course's par, from your average score - average your score over around 10 rounds, adjusting your score for any blowouts - that is, don't include 7's, 8's & 9's etc. include these as 6's). The more you repeat this process the more accurate your Handicap Index will become. This is ONLY an UNofficial Handicap, and will not be as accurate as an Official Handicap produced through a Club. 3. New Members - Welcome To help you enjoy GoforGOLF I make the following suggestions: a. Tick the 'Use USPGA Slope Rating for score entry' This will make GoforGOLF automatically calculate your course handicap from your handicap index. b. Select your Home or Default course. This can be the most used course you play, and it will automatically load when you 'Sign In'. You can still select other courses in the usual way, but, this will save you time when you play your own/usual course. Both these are accessed through the 'Change your Details' button on the green menu, once you have 'Signed In'. REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** NEW ZEALAND GOLF MAGAZINE We continue in our endeavours to develop and improve the GOLF Magazine.
