GoforGOLF . . . NEWSLETTER 2006 U S OPEN . . . GoforGOLF
A SPECIAL - 2006 U S OPEN Newsletter from GoforGOLF ************************************************************************ 2006 U S OPEN 2006 U S OPEN 2006 U S OPEN ************************************************************************ *** THE 2006 US OPEN As I stated in my June Newsletter, " I am not going to try and pick a winner for this one. Best just to say, it will probably be one of the top 10, or someone out of the pack. " I will be in front of the TV, however, so I don't miss a minute of coverage. All the top guys are performing, Phil having stamped his mark so far this year. Vijay has just won the last tournament. Tiger has been in good form, but, we haven't seen much of him so far this year, except for us in New Zealand, where he has been racing cars, and I expect enjoying some Kiwi hospitality. (Now that won't help his golf). Ernie has been showing out after his injury, while not quite sparkling, I suspect that is close. And there is the defending champion, Michael Campbell from New Zealand, who also not sparkling, has been putting in some solid results. Add a bunch of South African, headed by Retief Goosen, and another group of Australians. My heart says Michael Campbell . . and my gut says Ernie Els. (And my wish says Fred Couples - this is a tight course - go Freddie). ************************************************************************ STILL . . . It is in Mamaroneck which is on Long Island Sound, New York One tradition says the community was named after a local chief; others say it is an Indian term variously translated as "the place where fresh water falls into salt" or "the place of rolling stones" or "he assembles the people" Although the Dutch discovered Mamaroneck, the English bought it from the Indians in 1661 (It sounds to me that the Indian's actually found the place). It has long been a boatbuilding and sailing center For a Map: http://www.zip-codes.com/zip-code/10543/zip-code-10543.asp There is the local weather: http://www.wunderground.com/US/NY/Mamaroneck.html http://ny.weather-forecast.ws/mamaroneck and for the New York Radar http://ny.weather-forecast.ws/kokx-radar THE district: http://www.village.mamaroneck.ny.us/ http://www.townofmamaroneck.org/ Everything from the Town Hall http://www.city-data.com/city/Mamaroneck-New-York.html Lots of Stats And for History http://www.townofmamaroneck.org/history.html and for a village history with many links try: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mamaroneck_(village),_New_York http://www.usopen.com/news/stamping_foot_2.html for some Winged Foot history AND for something different . . .
