Ladies Europe vs America *** Presidents Cup . . . USA vs Rest of the World *** World Rugby Cup . . . The ALL Blacks vs the World *** World Twenty/20 . . . The Black Cups vs the World ************************************************************************ *** FEDEX CUP and MORE The FedEx Cup Playoffs have been absorbing with the field reducing each round, and the points rearrangement from the 33 tournaments of the season. And with Tiger Woods winning the BMW Championship, we are at the TOUR Championship with just 30 players. Now, you may not have realised, but all 4 playoff tournaments had the same prize money, US$7 million per tournament, but, with each tournament having less players, that $7 mill, is divided between fewer players. THEN at the final tournament, the FedEX Cup is decided with its own prize pool of $34 million, and first prize of $10,000,000 (I have checked what I can, and this is how I read it. If it is incorrect I appologise.) Now since Tiger is going to win the FedEx Cup, the only question is will he also win the Tour Championship, and collect over $11 mill Phil Mickelson might be regretting having a disagreement with the organising committee, having dropped him back to 3rd. Perhaps to collect the cheque first, THEN protest the format, might have been the better way. Tiger bit the bullet, and had his weekend off right at the start . . . now looks like a very smart move. Some have played all tournaments . . . are Tiger & Phil a bit soft? Enough of that . . . . . . . The Solheim Cup is also on this weekend . . . The Ladies Ryders Cup, with the European Team verus the American Team . . . Don't you dare consider this a lesser contest . . . Go and check out the team members of both teams, and you will be excited at the prospect of the quality of players and contest. I can not list all here, but, try . . . European Team: Annika Sorenstam, Gwladys Nocera, Laura Davies and USA Team: Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Natalie Gulbis and . . . An then there is the President's Cup, USA versus an International Team, (only excluding the European Ryder Cup Countries). Team Captains, Gary Player vs Jack Nicklaus, both legends. USA Team you can imagine, Tiger, Furyk, Mickelson, Striker etc. And International, Ernie Els, Vijah, Adam Scott, K J Choi, Retief Goosen This is just some of the team members, that should get you excited. . . . For me there is also the start of the: World Rugby Cup, with the World famous All Blacks, representing New Zealand, and the Cricket Twenty20 World Championship, with the Black Caps. Both these world Championship events are underway, one in France and the other in South Africa. Even though I have been an All Black supported since TV was invented, I think the excitement of the GOLF COMING UP is going to challenge my New Zealand Loyalty . . . . . . . . . I do invite and encourage you to send me your views on my comments to email greg@goforgolf.com Enjoy your Golf Greg Paul __________________________________________________________ *** AUGUST COMPETITION The winner of the August Spot the Ball contest is Greg Mageean of Lower Hutt The winning position was c 7 Your one dozen golf balls will be on their way to you soon. Sand Saves It is great to see more and more are using the advanced analysis option, to receive ANALYSIS . . . JUST LIKE the PROS GoforGOLF has been set up to enable all golfers to use the analysis to your advantage, to help you improve your game. Being an average golfer myself, I know how difficult it is to achieve a GIR, Green in Regulation, so I set GoforGOLF up to be flexible on the way extra information is entered. While GIR's are calculated the same as the Pros, there are various analysies that do not require you to play like a Pro, to achieve useful analysis HOWEVER, it does rely on you, the player, being consistent with YOUR interpretation of the results entered. As long as you are consistent, GoforGOLF will tell you where you are improving and where you need to spend some time working on. 2. Interpretation . . . Up & Downs . . . Sand Saves I hope you have had the patience to read the above and want to continue. I have had a few enquiries recently regarding "up & Downs" and "Sand Saves" so it is an appropriate time to explain both factors as they can be recorded in GoforGOLF. To explain "Sand Saves": For a Professional or Low handicap Golfer, a "sand save" is where their approach shot has ended in a greenside bunker. If they chip out of the bunker and then sink their first putt, they have achieved a Sand Save . . . same for us . . . Similarly "Up and Down" . . . If a Pro misses hitting the green close with their approach shot, 2nd shot on a par 4, where they should be able to hit the green, then if they chip onto the green and then sink their first putt, they have achieved an "Up and Down" Consistent recording: For the average golfer, who strays every now and then, then instead of it being your "2nd shot", replace that with "your approach shot" . . . That is the shot that "YOU" feel you should be able to hit the green, and have probably just missed the green, or have caught that green side bunker or missed the green. NOW . . . you tick the box that you are going to attempt an Up and Down, or Sand Save. Then if you do chip and succeed with your ONE PUTT, you have achieved . . . YOUR . . . "Up and Down or Sand Save . . . " If you need further help with this please do not hesitate to email me. This is not an easy concept to absorb, particularly if you are new to golf, and have not spent years watching the professionals on TV. Greg at: greg@goforgolf.com REMEMBER the more scorecards you enter, the better the analysis you will receive from GoforGOLF. __________________________________________________________ *** MORE GOLF & SPORTS LINKS The 2007 US Tour has changed to accommodate the FedEx Cup As well as the Final of the FedEx Cup, the TOUR Championship, this week, we have the Ladies Solheim Cup the same weekend, this year held in Sweden, and then the Presidents Cup, between USA and an International Team 2007 Presidents Cup - Captains - Gary Player Vs Jack Nicklaus Both Legends . . .
